JOÃO GILBERTO

Things change in the career of a great artist.

Despite the fact João Gilberto is fairly acclaimed as genius, people say he can be very perfeccionist and demanding when it comes to his performances and work in general. He’s also been on the “other side” nevertheless.

Short after he arrived in Rio de Janeiro coming from Bahia, in 1949, he got a job to play in a band called Garotos da Lua (something like Moon Boys). Less than one year later, João Gilberto was fired by the other guys in the band. They said they couln’t handle his delays and absences to rehearsals and scheduled shows anylonger.

Too bad for the Garotos da Lua, but great for Brazilian music!
