MUSIC AND ITS HISTORY

MARISA MONTE

Marisa Azevedo Monte was born on July 1st 1967, in Rio de Janeiro. She learned how to play the piano very early, but at the age of 9 her interest turned to the guitar and to lyric singing, which she practiced for quite some time.

In 1985 Marisa decided to move to Italy to continue her studies on lyric singing. She ended up quitting the classes though, and started singing Brazilian popular music in Italy’s restaurants.

In one of those presentations, in Venice, Marisa Monte met the Brazilian music producer Nelson Motta. Fascinated by her performance, he decided to promote and direct her first concert in Brazil, which happened in 1987 and took place in the Jazz Mania music house, in Rio de Janeiro. Marisa’s first album was recorded in 1988.
