MUSIC AND ITS HISTORY
CESAR
CAMARGO MARIANO
Most artists have experienced unusual situations,
especially in the beginning of their careers. Check
out what happened to young César Camargo.
In 1958, São Paulo’s
TV channel Record invited this terrific pianist to
record a TV commercial. César Camargo was supposed
to play on the commercial that advertised Nat King
Cole’s visit to Brazil.
The artist thought it would be a
great chance to be famous and recognized as a musician.
What he did not know was that he would be Nat King
Cole on the commercial.
He had to wear a Nat King Cole style
suit and get face and hands painted in black. People
could see only part of his silhouette. “Ok,
everything for the art!”
The extraordinary American singer
really appreciated the recording, and ended up inviting
César Camargo to watch one of his performances
in the first row. However, the Brazilian musician
never got to enjoy the concert… he was not allowed
in for being underage!
